What we noticed during your consultation
Your natural hair has a beautiful 4A/4B coil pattern. The care plan below is tailored to your consultation profile and to the way your hair responds to cleansing, conditioning, product application, and styling.
We also noted severe heat damage, brittle areas, low or weak elasticity, and fractured or split ends. Your scalp was healthy, so our focus is restoring the condition of the hair itself while protecting the ends and limiting additional heat and unnecessary manipulation.
The focus for this month: protect your ends, keep the scalp fresh, support elasticity, give the braid lengths controlled moisture, and avoid additional heat while the cornrows are in.
What we completed in the salon
Today’s service was a custom restoration session designed to support both strength and moisture. After cleansing, we layered amika The Kure Multi-Task Treatment, a measured amount of Olaplex 4-in-1 Moisture Mask, and Biolage Hydra Source Deep Treatment Mask under a cap before rinsing thoroughly. This was followed by careful preparation and controlled drying with small, consistent sections to keep handling gentle on the most fragile areas.
Because your hair received a fuller restoration service today, this is not the month to repeat strong treatments at home. Your take-home routine is intentionally simpler: cleanse thoughtfully, condition with purpose, hydrate lightly, and protect the braid lengths without excessive product buildup.
Your approved take-home routine
For the scalp cleanse: MIZANI Moisture Fusion Moisture Rich Shampoo is your wash-day foundation. Use it diluted in an applicator bottle when cleansing between cornrow parts, then rinse thoroughly.
For full wash days after braid removal: follow shampoo with Redken Acidic Bonding Curls Silicone-Free Conditioner, concentrating on the mid-lengths and ends. This is a rinse-out conditioning step, not a product to layer heavily into braids.
For lightweight braid hydration: use MIZANI 25 Miracle Leave-In Cream. Mix a small, quarter-sized amount with warm water in a clean spray bottle, shake well, and mist the braid lengths lightly. The goal is a soft, light application rather than a white or creamy buildup.
For sealing: warm MIZANI 25 Miracle Nourishing Oil between your palms and lightly pat two to three drops over the braid lengths and ends as needed. Keep oil use light and avoid treating the scalp as though it needs to be greased.
For your braid wash day: use Biolage Hydra Source Deep Treatment Mask after scalp cleansing. Smooth it over the braid lengths, cover for 10–15 minutes, rinse thoroughly, and allow the style to become fully dry before tying down.
Your first four weeks at home
Week 1: Protect the reset
Keep manipulation low and let the salon service settle. Refresh the braid lengths only when they feel dry: mist lightly with your diluted MIZANI leave-in, then use a small amount of oil on the lengths and ends. Wear a satin or silk scarf at night, avoid scratching with nails, and do not add heavy butters, grease, or multiple new products this week.
Week 2: Complete the cornrow phase and prepare for take-down
Your cornrows will likely remain in for approximately two weeks. While they are installed, dilute your MIZANI shampoo with water in an applicator bottle and apply it directly along the scalp parts. Massage gently with your finger pads, rinse well, and apply the Biolage Hydra Source Deep Treatment Mask over the cornrows for 10–15 minutes before rinsing completely. Allow the cornrows to become fully dry before tying them down.
Week 3: Take down the cornrows and cleanse the full hair
Once the cornrows are removed, shampoo the full head of hair—including the lengths—in sections. This full cleanse is important because the hair is dry, heat-damaged, and being prepared for repair. Follow with Redken Acidic Bonding Curls Silicone-Free Conditioner, then complete your deep-conditioning step. Detangle gently while damp, apply your leave-in, and use a low-manipulation stretch style only after the hair is fully dry. Do not skip the lengths when shampooing after take-down.
Week 4: Maintain the reset and prepare for your salon return
Continue with light hydration, satin or silk protection, and minimal heat. Watch for increased breakage, roughness, or ends that remain visibly split. Plan your salon return at approximately three to four weeks for a careful reassessment, end inspection, recommended trim, and the next appropriate restorative step. Any intensive repair service should remain professionally managed so the application order and timing are appropriate for the hair’s condition.
Why we plan future services before you leave
Hair recovery is most successful when there is a clear sequence of home care, protective styling, salon assessment, and targeted treatment. Rather than waiting for dryness, breakage, or buildup to become urgent, we use your return visits to assess what changed, protect the progress you made, and decide whether your hair needs more strength, more moisture, an end trim, or simply a low-manipulation style.
Your service plan is not a rigid package. It is a roadmap. Each service is selected after reviewing the condition of your scalp, ends, elasticity, shedding, breakage, and the way your hair responded to the previous routine.
Your one-to-three-month salon roadmap
Weeks 3–4: Full wash, reassessment, repair, and trim
Your first return visit should be scheduled after the cornrows have been removed and the full hair has been shampooed and conditioned at home. We will assess the hair after take-down, inspect the ends, reassess elasticity, and determine the next restorative step. If appropriate, we can complete a professionally managed repair service followed by tailored styling and controlled drying. This is also the right time to complete the recommended trim or dusting because no mask or serum can permanently repair an already split end.
Weeks 6–8: Build on your response, not on a calendar alone
At this visit, we compare your hair’s response with the baseline from today. If the hair remains overly soft, weak, or prone to breakage, a customized strength-and-moisture restoration service may be appropriate. If it feels firm, rough, or less flexible, we may focus more heavily on moisture, slip, gentle cleansing, and protective styling rather than adding another intensive strengthening service. This appointment is where we confirm whether to repeat a customized Amika, Olaplex, and Biolage restoration session, provide a moisture-focused maintenance service, or transition into another protective style.
Weeks 10–12: Progress review and next-style planning
By month three, the goal is clearer: less breakage, more manageable wash days, healthier-looking ends, and a routine that is easy to maintain. We will review progress, adjust your take-home products if needed, discuss any needed trim, and plan the next service or protective style around your current hair condition. A new style should support the recovery plan rather than interrupt it.
Book with the future in mind
Before each appointment ends, we will discuss and reserve the next appropriate service window. Booking your next check-in while the routine is fresh helps prevent long gaps, heavy buildup, rushed take-downs, or unnecessary treatment overlap. It also allows Holistic Tresses to keep your retail routine and in-salon care working together.
When you book, let us know whether you are returning for a take-down and K18 reset, a customized moisture-and-strength restoration service, an end assessment and trim, or your next protective-style installation. We will confirm the best service based on what your hair is showing at that time.
Three rules to keep your results on track
- Keep it light. Measured product application supports manageability and helps prevent product overload.
- Keep it clean. A fresh scalp and a thorough rinse are more beneficial than covering buildup with oil or cream.
- Keep us informed. If the style feels painful, the scalp is irritated, or breakage increases, reach out before attempting a new treatment at home.
Your routine is designed for your current hair needs and may be adjusted at your next visit. Hair changes with styling, environment, health, and handling, so we will continue to assess your results and keep the plan simple, effective, and appropriate for your strands.
